NEW DELHI: Ford Motor, which is setting up a new technology and development centre in Chennai, will leverage the base further to increase Indian R&D content in its vehicles as the US carmaker scales up the technical capabilities of engineers employed here.
In Chennai, Ford has already appointed 800-1,000 employees including engineers who have worked on Figo Sports and EcoSport Platinum editions.
Ford Motor Co on Wednesday outlined a plan to cut costs and boost profit margins at a faster pace than previously announced, which includes dropping increasingly unpopular sedan models in North America.
The No. 2 U.S. automaker said it now plans to cut $25.5 billion in costs by 2022, up from a total of $14 billion the company announced to investors last fall.
A Friend in need is a friend indeed. This old adage aptly sums up the second coming of the Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) and Ford Motor Company (Ford) alliance. The two auto majors had first floated an equal (50:50) joint venture (JVs) 23 years ago, in 1995, around the time when the fourth phase of economic reforms (1998-2006) had kicked in, with easier FDI norms and an accent on inducting new technologies.
Mahindra and Mahindra and the India subsidiary of Ford Motor have signed five non-binding agreements, furthering the accord signed between them last September, Mahindra said.
The two automobile makers would be collaborating on multiple areas including connected vehicle projects, electric battery vehicles, development of compact sports utility vehicles (SUVs), B-segment SUVs and power trains.
Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) and Ford India are likely to formalise a memorandum of understanding that they signed six months ago and establish a partnership in the coming week to 10 days, according to several people with knowledge of the matter.
They are likely to share vehicle architecture, electric powertrains, common sourcing and leverage each other’s distribution network in the first phase, they said.
Southfield, Michigan: Ford Motor Co. is spending $25 million more at its Kentucky factory to pump out more of the profitable big sport utility vehicles that are critical to funding its ambitious—and expensive—electric and self-driving vehicle plans.
The investment will allow the second-largest US automaker to boost production of the new Lincoln Navigator and Ford Expedition by 25% from what the company was planning last fall, when the redesigned models first hit showrooms.
Three global car majors – Ford, Nissan, and Volkswagen – are skipping the ongoing Auto Expo 2018. There is one common trend among these three companies — they all ship more cars to overseas markets than their local sales within India.
Interestingly, there are no other carmakers with operations in the Indian market that export more cars than their domestic sales.
2018 Ford Figo Cross is now only a few days apart from an official unveil on 31 January, and this will be the first of kind car in Ford's lineup in India. The kind in question is a crossover between an SUV and a hatchback, so expect the Ford Fogo Cross to get SUV-like styling and dimensions of a hatchback. Unlike the Toyota Etios Cross, the Ford Figo Cross is an all-new product with some major changes to its exterior, interior and mechanics, in comparison to its hatchback version.
