Microsoft tops $1 trillion after strong Q3 earnings, cloud growth forecast

Microsoft Corp on Wednesday briefly topped $1 trillion in value for the first time after executives predicted continued growth for its cloud computing business.

The Redmond, Washington-based company beat Wall Street estimates for quarterly profit and revenue, powered by an unexpected boost in Windows revenue and brisk growth in its cloud business which has reached tens of billions of dollars in sales.


Microsoft employees decry Jack Ma backed '996' Chinese work culture

San Francisco: A group of Microsoft employees has come forward to support Chinese tech workers on the gruelling '996' culture, writing a petition in defence of a trending GitHub repository that is being censored in China.

In a letter written on web-hosting service Github, owned by Microsoft, the employees have asked the company to keep the "996.ICU" GitHub repository uncensored, The Verge reported on Monday.

Microsoft seeks easing of e-commerce norms, favours sharing of data within group firms

Tech major Microsoft wants a relaxation in the data storage norms under the government’s proposed e-commerce policy and is in favour of allowing data to be shared among group companies, which it feels will help business development and help entities provide better services to customers.

The development relates to the first meeting of stakeholders, which took place earlier this month, after the department for promotion of industry and internal trade (DPIIT) came out with its draft e-commerce policy, government sources said, adding that during the deliberations some of the stakeholders wanted relaxation in data storage rules.

Microsoft has come up with a new cool feature to its Excel Android app. The feature allows Excel users to convert data on a printed sheet to an editable table in the app just by clicking a photo.

The feature, which is initially available for Microsoft 365 users, will soon be rolled out to iOS.

Microsoft seeks to restrict abuse of its AI-based facial recognition tech

Microsoft Corp. is planning to implement self-designed ethical principles for its facial recognition technology by the end of March, as it urges governments to push ahead with matching regulation in the field.

The company in December called for new legislation to govern artificial intelligence software for recognizing faces, advocating for human review and oversight of the technology in some critical cases, as a way to mitigate the risks of biased outcomes, intrusions into privacy and democratic freedoms.
