Microsoft is working with PC manufacturers to introduce Windows 10-powered systems to empower SMEs to address their key business needs, a top company official said Wednesday. The idea is to help SMEs increase business productivity and ensure that employees use latest technologies, Microsoft India group director for devices Farhana Haque said at an event here. She asked small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to update their personal computers (PCs) – older than four years – to reduce maintenance cost and increase productivity.

Microsoft to stop updates for Windows 7 from January 2020

JAIPUR: Microsoft on Wednesday said its Windows 7 operating system will not get security and technical updates from January 14, 2020, onwards and users should shift to its latest software.

Microsoft also said that it is working with computer manufacturing companies like Dell and HP for making devices available at affordable prices and also working on options to roll out buyback or exchange offers.

In 2014, Microsoft Corp. cloud chief Scott Guthrie wrote up a proposal to acquire GitHub Inc. Then he filed the plan away in a drawer. Every once in a while he'd take the plan out and look at it, and then return it to the cabinet.

Guthrie felt Microsoft just wasn't ready to acquire the popular open-source company -- a widely used digital hive where millions of software programmers collaborate on, share and store code. “We would have screwed it up," Guthrie said.


Microsoft announces Xbox subscription service for PC gaming

Microsoft Corp. will begin selling a subscription service for personal computer video games, two years after unveiling a similar offering for the Xbox console.

Xbox Game Pass for PC offers access to more than 100 titles on Windows 10 for a monthly fee, rather than requiring individual purchases. They include games from studios including Bethesda, which makes the “Elder Scrolls” series, and Sega, as well as studios that Microsoft has acquired.
