Bharat Refractories limited, a public sector company under administrative control of ministry of steels, Govt. of India came into existence in 1974. Since inception, the company has crossed major milestones to become one of the largest refractory producers in India. The company is world renowned for its quality and has been successfully catering to the requirement of the steel industry and other users.

On October 1, 2000 the Department of Telecom Operations, Government of India became a corporation and was christened Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited(BSNL). Today, BSNL is the No. 1 Telecommunications Company and the largest Public Sector Undertaking of India with authorized share capital of $ 3600 million and networth of $ 13.85 billion. It has a network of over 45 million lines covering 5000 towns with over 35 million telephone connections.

The Nuclear Energy Programme in India has been visualized to grow in three phases. Phase – I consisting of natural uranium fuelled Pressurized Heavy Water Reactors (PHWR) which can sustain a capacity of 12 GWe for about 30 years with proven reserves of 50,000 t of natural uranium in the country.

The Bird Group of Companies (BGC), under administrative control of the Ministry of Steel, Government of India was part of erstwhile Bird & Company Ltd, which was nationalized by the Government of India by virtue of The Bird & Company Ltd ( Acquisition and Transfer of Undertakings and other properties ) Act, 1980 ( Act No. 67 of 1980). Consequent upon such nationalization of the Undertaking, shares held by the said company in twenty one companies specified in Schedule I to the aforesaid Act stood transferred in the name of the President of India. Based on the shareholding pattern, out of the twenty-one companies, the following companies came under the administrative control of the Ministry of Steel, Government of India, and renamed as Bird Group of Companies which has head quarter at Salt Lake in Kolkata, West Bengal.
