Citizenship (Amendment) Bill to be tabled in Lok Sabha for passage today

The controversial Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2019, which seeks to grant Indian citizenship to non-Muslim refugees from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan, will be tabled in Lok Sabha on Monday.

The Bill, which proposes to amend the Citizenship Act, 1955, will be tabled by Union Home Minister Amit Shah in the lower house of the Parliament and will be taken up for discussion and passage, according to the Lok Sabha's List of Business for Monday.

The Delhi High Court has issued notices to exporters in cases related to non-payment of integrated goods and services tax (IGST) on imports under an export incentive scheme.

The cases relate to the review petition filed by revenue authorities regarding imposition of IGST on imports of goods under the advance authorisation scheme, which allows exporters to import goods that go into exports without payment of duties.

The Supreme Court has ordered an interim stay on the National Company Law Appellate Tribunal's (NCLAT's) ruling on the resolution of debt-ridden Orchid Pharma.

The NCLAT in November set aside the National Company Law Tribunal's (NCLT's) approval of a resolution plan by Gurgaon-based Dhanuka Laboratories for Orchid and remitted the matter to the NCLT, observing that it quoted an amount below the liquidation value and could not be approved.

After seeing 5.1 per cent growth in October, the domestic pharma market has bounced back in November. The Indian pharma market (IPM) registered a 14.5 per cent year-on-year growth in November, one of the best growths seen in more than 32 months.

Data from market research firm AIOCD AWACS showed that in November last year, the IPM had clocked a 7 per cent growth.

The economic offences wing (EOW) of Uttar Pradesh Police has arrested seven accused in the UP Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) employees' provident fund (PF) scam, in which Rs 4,122 crore was illegally parked with private lender Dewan Housing Finance Corporation Limited (DHFL).

Those arrested included a senior DHFL official, a chartered accountant and the owners of bogus brokerage firms. With the new arrests yesterday, the number of those rounded up in the case has risen to 12.
