Infosys fined $800,000 for worker misclassification, tax fraud in US

Infosys, India's top IT major, has agreed to pay $800,000 to settle allegations of misclassification of foreign workers and tax fraud, officials announced Tuesday.

Infosys will pay California $800,000 (nearly Rs 56 crore) to resolve allegations that between 2006 and 2017, approximately 500 Infosys employees were working in the State on Infosys-sponsored B-1 visas rather than H-1B visas, California Attorney General Xavier Becerra said.

The central government has released GST compensation of Rs 35,298 crore to states and union territories today (Monday), the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) said in a tweet.

State Bank of India (SBI) and other public sector banks have decided to lend Rs 4,000 crore to Patanjali Ayurved for the acquisition of Ruchi Soya, which was facing bankruptcy proceedings under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code.

The money lent by banks will help the government owned banks to settle their exposure to Ruchi Soya with a haircut of 65 per cent. Apart from SBI, Union Bank is also one of the banks lending to Patanjali.
