Kerala govt announces Rs 20,000 crore package amid coronavirus spread

The Kerala government has announced a Rs 20,000-crore financial package for the state to tide over the present crisis being faced by the southern state in the wake of the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak. This includes Rs 14,000 crore to clear all arrears pending in various sectors and a Rs 500-crore health package.
On Thursday, the state has reported one more positive case, taking the total confirmed COVID-19 cases to 28, of which 25 patients are under treatment, said state Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.
“The state is facing a huge crisis and normal life has been affected. This has impacted the economy. The financial package is expected to revive the economy,” said Vijayan in Thiruvananthapuram on Thursday after a review meeting with the health minister and other officials. He said the fund has to come from the state government and there won’t be any problem in finding the fund.
The plan covers health package, loan assistance, welfare pension, MNREGS, free foodgrain, subsidised meals, tax relief, and arrear clearance. The state government will facilitate Rs 2,000 crore loans through self-help group Kudumbashree in the nature of a consumer loan to those impacted by COVID-19. Another Rs 2,000 crore will be distributed as village employment assurance programme for April and May.
Social welfare pension, due in April, will be distributed in March. For the two-month pension, it is expected to be around Rs 1,320 crore. The state government’s plans to launch restaurants will be fast-tracked and meals will be offered at Rs 20 instead of Rs 25.
The state government has also held discussions with defence and paramilitary forces, to ensure their support in case of emergency and they have assured support, including access to their health care centres, Army barracks and helicopters as and when required, he added.

Paytm is in talks with Zomato Ltd. to sell its movie and events ticketing business, according to people familiar with the matter, as the beleaguered fintech company carves a revival strategy amid weakening sales.
The discussions between Paytm, officially known as One97 Communications Ltd., and online food delivery firm Zomato are in advanced stages, though there are other suitors for the business, the people said, declining to be named as the matter is private. Talks are ongoing and no final decision has been made, the people said.

The multi-crore Dharavi slum redevelopment project involves no land transfer to the Adani group but to the Maharashtra government's departments, and the Ahmedabad-based conglomerate, as a project developer, will build houses that will be handed over to the same departments for allotment to residents of Asia's biggest slums, sources said.
Denying allegations of land grab made by MP Varsha Gaikwad, sources close to the project said land parcels are to be transferred only to Dharavi Redevelopment Project/Slum Rehabilitation Authority (DRP/SRA) of the state government's housing department.

In a significant step towards enhancing green energy generation in the state, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma laid the foundation stone for a 25-MW solar power generation project at the premises of the Namrup Thermal Power Station in Dibrugarh district on Friday.
A joint venture between the Assam Power Generation Corporation and Oil India Limited, the project will span 108 acres and is expected to cost Rs. 115 crore.

South Korean automotive giant Hyundai Motor Co's Indian subsidiary, Hyundai Motor India Limited, has filed draft papers to the Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) to raise around $3 billion through an initial public offering (IPO), aiming for a valuation between $18 billion to $20 billion, according to a report in Moneycontrol.
