Mercedes-Maybach SUV revealed: Here’s what’s special about the ‘Ultimate Luxury’ all-electric concept

Before its official unveiling at the Beijing Motor Show, Mercedes-Maybach's latest SUV concept has been revealed inside out in a set of leaked images. Mercedes-Maybach Ultimate Luxury concept is a very offbeat design - a high-riding four-door sedan with a trunk, unlike a traditional SUV. The fascia is marked by a big waterfall grille flanked by low, aggressive three-unit headlights, and the overall styling is a combination of SUV ruggedness and luxury.

Mercedes-Benz S-Class has been known for being one of the most luxurious saloons the world has ever seen. Now though, with the widespread talks over electric mobility, the German marque is working on an all-electric equivalent of its flagship saloon car - the Mercedes-Benz S-Class. Once launched, it will rival the upcoming zero-emissions Jaguar XJ and next-generation electric Audi A8, however, unlike the two it will not be a variant of the S-Class.

Among the German Luxury car manufacturers, Mercedes-Benz has perhaps the strongest hold in the Indian subcontinent. Having recently announced their sales for 2017-18 and reasserting their leadership in the country having sold as many as 16,236 cars. The company, which had sold 13,259 units in 2016-17, also said in the January-March period it sold 4,556 units as against 3,650 units in the year-ago period, up 24.8 per cent.

Mercedes launches flagship GLS Grand Edition priced at Rs 8.69 million

German luxury carmaker Mercedes-Benz today launched Grand Edition of its flagship SUV GLS in India with both petrol and diesel powertrains priced at Rs 8.69 million.

The GLS 350 d comes with a 3-litre V6 diesel engine producing 258 horsepower while GLS 400 features a V6 petrol engine that delivers 333 horsepower.


Mercedes-Benz looks to sustain double-digit growth

MUMBAI: Mercedes-Benz, the top luxury-car brand in India, expects to sustain double-digit growth in 2018, provided there aren’t any more policy disruptions during the year to add to the budget proposal to increase the duty on imported kits and components.

To build on the momentum from 2017, when its India sales rose 16% to 15,330 units, Mercedes-Benz will be launching 10 products this year.

The Indian luxury car market is becoming a tale of missed opportunities with frequent changes in tax policy, the country’s biggest luxury car player, Mercedes Benz, has said.

Sales of luxury vehicles account for just 1 per cent of the Indian market of over 3 million cars a year. This is low against an average 3-5 per cent in most other countries.


Mercedes launches enhanced S-Class in diesel and petrol starting Rs 13.3 mn

German luxury car maker Mercedes-Benz today said it has launched the enhanced version of its flagship product Mercedes-Benz S-Class -- S 350 d diesel, and also the S 450 petrol -- in India at a price starting from Rs 1.33 crore.

While the Mercedes-Benz S 350 d is priced at Rs 1.33 crore, the petrol version S 450 is priced at Rs 1.37 crore, the company said in a statement.


Poorly formulated policy on electric vehicles may cause job losses, higher pollution, says Mercedes India chief

Luxury car maker Mercedes has told the Indian government to act cautiously while formulating the policies related to electric vehicles (EV) or else it may cause job losses like the ones in Europe.

Also, the company added that if the government drops the cess on luxury cars or reduces it, it could result in doubling of volumes in the near future.


Mercedes-Benz apologises to China after quoting Dalai Lama in a social media post

BEIJING: Auto giant Mercedes-Benz's China unit apologised today after its parent company quoted Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama in a social media post on Instagram.

"We are fully aware that the post deeply hurt the feelings of Chinese people, including our Chinese colleagues and we would like to extend the sincerest apology," state-run Global Times quoted the company as saying in a statement.


New Mercedes-Benz A-Class' tech may give Silicon Valley a run for its money

Daimler's new Mercedes A-Class, unveiled on Friday, includes the German automaker's own machine-learning and voice recognition technology in one of the industry's boldest attempts so far to take on Silicon Valley's finest.

The Mercedes "MBUX" dashboard system to be rolled out across the lineup is about as capable at understanding what you say - and more importantly what you mean - as Amazon's Alexa, Apple's Siri or Alphabet's Google Assistant.
