Customs sleuths at the Mangaluru International Airport (MIA) have seized a total of 3,677 grams of smuggled gold worth Rs 2,01,69,800 between Jan 1 and 18 this year, successfully foiling gold trafficking to a considerable extent.

Eight passengers travelling from Dubai and Abu Dhabi had tried to smuggle gold into the country through nefarious means, a Customs release here said.

The Bombay High Court on Friday granted interim bail to arrested Videocon group founder and chairman, Venugopal Dhoot. Dhoot approached the high court after co-accused Chanda Kochhar, former managing director and chief executive officer of the ICICI bank, and her husband were granted bail.

A division bench comprising justices Revati Mohite Dere and Prithviraj Chavan heard Dhoot's plea. Earlier, ICICI Bank's former CEO and managing director Chanda Kochhar and her husband, Deepak Kochhar, were released from jail on Tuesday in the Videocon bank fraud case.

Vedanta's Cairn Oil & Gas on Thursday announced the appointment of Nick Walker as the new chief executive officer (CEO) of the company.

In a statement, the company said the appointment is effective January 5.

"Before this appointment, Walker was president and chief executive officer at Lundin Energy, one of the leading European independent E&P companies," it said.
