New Delhi, March 29: NTPC, the country's largest power utility, plans to set the ball rolling for its twin foreign forays - a 1,320MW power plant at Bagerhat in Bangladesh and a 500MW unit in Sri Lanka.

"We have been powering India's drive to growth and are now working to help drive Asia's growth. We intend to complete the Bagerhat plant by 2018 and will step up work on the Sampur coal project (Sri Lanka)," NTPC chairman Arup Roy Choudhury said in an interaction with The Telegraph.

Tata Motors approaches underwriters for rights issue

Mumbai: Tata Motors Ltd has approached investment banks to underwrite the company’s Rs.7,500 crore rights issue to ensure that stocks are not left unsold in case there is lack of demand from shareholders because of volatile market conditions, according to three bankers who are in discussions with the company.

“There are eight investment banks that have been hired for the rights issue and all of them are underwriting it. Apart from the promoter’s portion, the rest of it will be underwritten by us,” said one of the bankers cited above, who requested anonymity because of the confidentiality of the matter.

State-owned power equipment maker BHEL on Monday said it has bagged over Rs 5,000 crore contract for executing a thermal power project in Telangana.

“Telangana State Power Generation Corporation (TSGENCO) has awarded Bhel with an EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction) order for setting up a 1,080 MW thermal power plant in the state,” BHEL said in a statement.
