Constellation Energy Group, Inc., through its subsidiaries, supplies energy products and services in North America. The company operates in three segments: Merchant Energy, Regulated Electric, and Regulated Gas. The Merchant Energy segment owns, operates, and maintains fossil, nuclear, and renewable generating facilities, and holds interests in nuclear generating facilities, qualifying facilities, and power projects. It also provides operation and maintenance services, including testing and start-up, to owners of electric generating facilities. In addition, this segment offers products and services to meet the energy requirements of wholesale and retail customers, including distribution utilities, cooperatives, aggregators, and commercial, industrial, and governmental customers. As of December 31, 2009, it had a total generation capacity of 7,118 megawatts. The Regulated Electric segment purchases, transmits, distributes, and sells electricity in central Maryland. It maintained approximately 240 substations, 1,300 circuit miles of transmission lines, and 24,500 circuit miles of distribution lines. The Regulated Gas segment purchases, transports, and sells natural gas in central Maryland. Constellation Energy Group also designs, constructs, and operates renewable energy, heating, cooling, and cogeneration facilities; offers energy performance contracting and energy efficiency engineering services; provides home improvements, service electric and gas appliances, service heating, air conditioning, plumbing, electrical, and indoor air quality systems, as well as offers natural gas marketing to residential customers in central Maryland; and develops and deploys new nuclear plants in North America through its joint venture. The company was founded in 1906 and is based in Baltimore, Maryland.

Show me the power. Cuivre River Electric Cooperative provides power to four eastern counties in the "Show Me" state: Lincoln, Pike, St. Charles, and Warren. The membership utility, which is one of Missouri's largest cooperatives with more than 58,000 residential, commercial, and industrial customers, gets its wholesale power supply from the Associated Electric Cooperative and the Central Electric Power Cooperative. Cuivre River Propane, jointly owned and operated by Cuivre River Electric Cooperative and MFA Oil Company supplies propane to co-op members from four locations, Bowling Green, Elsberry, Troy, and Wright City.

Czechs want to power up, they turn to state-controlled EZ, (the lead company of CEZ Group) which produces, distributes, and sells electricity and heat to 3.5 million customers in the Czech Republic. EZ, formed by the government in 1992, is now publicly traded, although in 2008 the government continued to control 63% of its stock. Subsidiaries and affiliates of EZ form what is known as the CEZ Group, which has operations in coal mining and power generation and marketing across Central and Southeastern Europe. The CEZ Group serves 7 million customers and has about 12,200 MW of generating capacity.

Dairyland Power Cooperative provides its customers with lots of juice in the land of lactose. The firm provides electricity generation (about 1,420 MW of generating capacity) and transmission services for 25 member distribution cooperatives and 16 municipal utilities in five states (including Wisconsin). The member cooperatives and municipal utilities in turn distribute electricity to almost 252,900 consumers. Dairyland Power generates more than 1,100 MW of capacity from its coal-fired power plants; it also operates 3,150 miles of transmission lines and 280 substations.

The Dakota Electric Association delivers electricity to residents of southeastern Minnesota, the Gopher State , so they don't have to burrow underground for those long, cold winters. The member-owned utility serves more than 100,000 customers in portions of Dakota, Goodhue, Rice, and Scott counties south of Minneapolis-St. Paul. The co-op gets its power wholesale from transmission cooperative Great River Energy and distributes it over 3,720 miles of power lines, nearly two-thirds of which are buried. Dakota Electric is pushing energy efficiency programs and products to help save its customers money.
