Larry Blumberg doesn't want to leave anyone out in the cold. Larry Blumberg and Associates (LBA) develops and manages hotels (brands include Best Western, Fairfield Inn by Marriott, Hampton Inn & Suites, Red Roof Inn, and Holiday Inn) in the southeastern US. Its portfolio includes about 50 properties in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee. LBA also offers operations and asset management, accounting, and sales and marketing services to third party hotels. CEO Larry Blumberg developed his first hotel -- it is still managed by LBA -- in 1972.

Lodgian is a multi-brand hospitality franchisee that operates some 35 hotels in more than 20 US states and one hotel in Windsor, Canada. The company's portfolio is focused mostly on the mid-market segment serving both leisure and business travels with full-service brands franchised from InterContinental Hotels (including Crowne Plaza and Holiday Inn) and Marriott (Courtyard by Marriott, Fairfield Inn by Marriott, Residence Inn by Marriott, SpringHill Suites by Marriott). It also runs a handful of unaffiliated and other branded hotels (Hilton, Carlson, Starwood, and Wyndham).

Marriott's hotels include such full-service brands as Renaissance Hotels and its flagship Marriott Hotels & Resorts, as well as select-service and extended-stay brands Courtyard and Fairfield Inn. It also owns the Ritz-Carlton luxury chain and resort, and time-share properties operated by Marriott Vacation Club International. Marriott additionally provides more than 2,000 rental units for corporate housing and manages 40 golf courses. The Marriott family, including CEO J. W. Marriott Jr., owns about 30% of the firm.

In 1948, Herbert and Frances (Lengfeld) Meyer, the founders of Meyer Motels, Ltd. (now known as Meyer Crest, Ltd.), purchased their first motel in Red Bluff, California. Since then, the Meyer family has owned and operated as many as 45 hotels in three Western states. Herb, a transplanted New Yorker, was a highly self-motivated man with strong aspirations. The motel business provided him with outlets for his creative energy and aspirations. Fran provided support and guidance, contributing her ideas and maintaining the accounting for the family business while also raising their four children. Throughout their younger years, all the children were involved in the family business in varying degrees.

An instant hit, the hotel revolutionized the hospitality industry with the introduction of the “Boutique Hotel” concept, characterized by personalized service and home-away-from-home ambiance in a setting of timeless elegance. This boutique concept was again showcased with great success at New York's Royalton, the first property designed by Philippe Starck; Royalton has since been given a dramatic redesign by New York based designers, Roman and Williams.
