Oki Semiconductor Co., Ltd.

Oki Semiconductor Co., Ltd.

Oki Electric Industry had this to say to its semiconductor operations: "Go find a new owner. ROHM, if you want to." The Japanese computer, office equipment, and telecom conglomerate spun off its microchip business in late 2008, selling 95% of the spinoff's shares to semiconductor manufacturer ROHM and keeping an equity stake of 5%. Oki Semiconductor makes a wide variety of chips, including communications ICs, display drivers, memory devices, microcontrollers, and optical components. Oki began fabricating transistors in 1961 and set up a Semiconductor Business Group in 2005, in preparation for the spinoff.
