MaterialScience makes raw materials for adhesives and coatings; it also manufactures plastics, films, and resins. Its products are marketed to the automotive, construction, footwear, sports, and textiles industries, among others.

BioLargo, Inc. engages in licensing its BioLargo technology. It identifies and develops odor control products based on BioLargo technology for the animal health marketplace, such as animal bedding additives, cat litter additives, and facilities and equipment wash products. BIP (Oldbury) has been dipping into specialty chemicals since its creation in 1894. The company, formerly BIP Limited (and earlier, British Industrial Plastics Limited), is the oldest polymer material manufacturer in the UK. A pioneer in developing thermoset resins and plastic molding materials, it was the first company to patent urea-formaldehyde resins. BIP now makes molding materials and textile and paper chemicals. It manufactures industrial chemicals such as formaldehyde resins, adhesives, and water-based polyurethanes. It also produces a biodiesel product, BIPSE, from discarded vegetable oils. Welsh company Synthite, a subsidiary of the Tennants Group, acquired BIP in 2004.

Borealis is another shining light in the northern sky of plastics. The company is among the leading European makers of polyethylene and polypropylene, the most common plastic resins (and together known as polyolefins). Borealis also produces olefins, ethylene and propylene, and compounds plastic resins to meet desired characteristics, mainly for wire and cable makers. Its Borstar technology is used to support its polyethylene and polypropylene products. The International Petroleum Investment Company of Abu Dhabi (IPIC) owns 65% of Borealis and Austrian oil firm OMV controls the remaining 35%.

Borouge Pte Limited sells a lot of plastic. The company is the Asia/Pacific regional sales and marketing arm of polymer manufacturing concern Borouge. Its polyolefin products (polyethylene and polypropylene) are sold to customers that make water, gas, and industrial pipe; packaging; and automotive components. Borouge, the parent company, is a joint venture between Borealis and Abu Dhabi National Oil Company.
