|National Archives of India
The National Archives of India is the repository of the non-current records of the Government of India and is holding them in trust for the use of administrators and scholars. It is an Attached Office of the Department of Culture under Ministry of Tourism & Culture. It was set up in March 1891 in Calcutta (Kolkata) as the Imperial Record Department and subsequent to the transfer of the National Capital from Calcutta to New Delhi in 1911 it was shifted to its present building in 1926
|National Film Archive of India (NFAI)
The mission of the National Film Archive of India is to safeguard the heritage of Indian Cinema for posterity and act as a centre for dissemination of a healthy film culture in the country. Promotion of film scholarship and research on various aspects of cinema also form part of its Charter. Familiarizing foreign audiences with Indian Cinema and to make it more visible across the globe is another declared objective of the Archive.
|National Gandhi Museum, New Delhi
The Museum was being managed under the Gandhi Smarak Nidhi (Gandhi Memorial Trust), New Delhi, in whose campus it is located, till 1965. On November 6, 1965, ‘Gandhi Smarak Sangrahalaya Samiti’ (GSSS; Gandhi Memorial Museum Society), Rajghat, New Delhi, was registered under the Societies Registration Act of 1860, Vide Regn. No. S.2873 of 1965-66 on 26 November 1965.
The National Library, India is the largest library in the country. It is an institution of National importance under the 'Department of Culture, Ministry of Tourism & Culture, Government of India'. The library is designated to collect, disseminate and preserve the printed material produced in the country. The library is situated on a scenic 30 acres Belvedere Estate, in Kolkata, formerly Calcutta City.
|National Mission for Manuscripts
India has a largest collection of manuscripts in the world. Composed in different Indian languages and scripts, they covers religion, philosophy, systems of science, arts and literature .Preserved in materials such as birch bark, palm leaf, cloth, wood, stone and paper, they are spread all over the country and abroad in libraries, academic institutions, museums, temples, monasteries and with individuals. Some of this wealth has disappeared , while a large portion is in a state of damage and decay. India's manuscripts wealth has to be preserved and redeemed. This is done by National Mission for Manuscripts
