Navbharat Explosives Co. Pvt. Ltd. was formed in 1983 to meet the gap between supply and demand of explosives.The unit at Raipur in 1998 for manufacturing Site Mixed Explosives, the future of the explosives industry.

NEL was established in 1984 to manufacture Nitro-Glycerine (NG) based explosives in technical and financial collaboration with M/s.Chematur Engineering, M/s.Dyno Industries and M/s.AB Scwedfund in Wardha District, Maharashtra. The plant commenced commercial production in December 1986. Post the ban imposed on possession, sale and use of NG based explosives by Government of India vide a gazette notification dated 21.01.2004, NEL diversified into manufacturing Class 2 category Emulsion based Explosives and Petrochemicals.

Premier Explosives Limited is a Rs.2400 million company established in 1980 and founded by the first generation entrepreneur Dr. A.N.Gupta, an alumnus of Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad. Since inception it has been a research and innovation oriented company by manufacturing explosives and detonators with totally indigenous technology in 1980's and 1990's. In 2013 PEL started commercial-scale manufacture of detonators with Nickel Hydrazine Nitrate (NHN)as primary charge emerging as the world first to do so. Extending its research forte to defence products, in 2003 PEL forayed into development of solid propellants and it is the first private entity in India manufacturing and supplying solid propellants for prestigious missiles like Akash, Astra, LRSAM, etc. PEL also entered space technology products like solid propellants for satellite launchers. Further, PEL ventured into manufacture of counter measure products like Chaff and Flare meeting the requirements of defence forces.

The powder products supplied by SME Pyro consist of aluminum air-atomized powders and ball milled powders, and magnesium powders.
