It is headed by a Director assisted by two Joint Directors and one Sr. Fruit Technological Officer in the rank of Joint Director, Four Deputy Directors, four Junior Officers including one Junior Accounts Officer and a host of Ministerial staff headed by a Registrar.

In 1974,Centre for Electronics Design and Technology (CEDT) was started with support from the DoE, UGC and the Swiss Development Cooperation. The mandates at that time were. To develop design methodologies and tools for the fabrication of electronic equipment,To train engineers for and foster collaboration with the nascent electronics industry in the country. Within a few years, the M.Tech programme in Electronics Design was started, and this continues to be one of the most sought after programmes in the country. The research programme (PhD and M.Sc (Engg)) started later, and features among the most prominent programmes at present. The centre is now a full department within the division of Electrical Sciences of the Indian Institute of Science. In January 2012, CEDT was renamed as **Department of Electronic Systems Engineering.

Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) organisation is an attached office of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry and is headed by Director General of Foreign Trade. Right from its inception till 1991, when liberalization in the economic policies of the Government took place, this organization has been essentially involved in the regulation and promotion of foreign trade through regulation. Keeping in line with liberalization and globalization and the overall objective of increasing of exports, DGFT has since been assigned the role of “facilitator”. The shift was from prohibition and control of imports/exports to promotion and facilitation of exports/imports, keeping in view the interests of the country.This Directorate, with headquarters at New Delhi, is headed by the Director General of Foreign Trade. It is responsible for formulating and implementing the Foreign Trade Policy with the main objective of promoting India’s exports. The DGFT also issues scrips/authorisation to exporters and monitors their corresponding obligations through a network of 36 regional offices and an extension counter at Indore.

Special Economic Zones were setup in the country with a view to provide an internationally competitive and hassle free environment for exports. Units may be set up in SEZ for manufacture of goods and rendering of services. It was also envisaged that some of the existing Export Processing Zones would be converted into Special Economic Zones. Accordingly, the Government has converted Export Processing zones located at Kandla and Surat (Gujarat), Cochin (Kerala), Santa Cruz (Mumbai-Maharashtra), Falta (West Bengal), Madras (Tamil Nadu), Visakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh) and Noida (Uttar Pradesh) into a Special Economic Zones.
