Overnight rains in Mumbai and adjoining areas on Tuesday led to the usual chaos of delayed trains, water-logged roads in several low-lying areas resulting in slow movement of vehicular traffic on Tuesday Morning.
Services of local trains were affected on Western line as a part of a railway's Foot Over Bridge (FOB) collapsed in Andheri.
"It's part of Gokhale bridge that connects Andheri east and Andheri west. We are at the spot and trying to check with the locals' if someone one is missing as they might be trapped under the debris," said Fire Brigade official.
The bridge collapse at around 7:45 affecting thousands of office-goers during the rush hour and at least three people were injured in tincident
Overhead Equipment (OHE) have been damaged and a team of engineers have swung into action to restore it, chief PRO of Western Railway Ravinder Bhakar said.
This FOB connects platforms 8-9 from where Andheri bound local trains and long distance trains terminate. However, the Western Railway is running Virar-Goregaon and Churchgate-Bandra locals.
The clearing of debris will take over 5 hours and rains will make this difficult. The tracks, overhead wires have also been damaged.
The Fire brigade, Railway authorities, NDRF and other disaster management teams are at the spot. "Search operation is in progress using rescue tools," said Chief Fire officer, BMC.
The road overbridge connects Andheri East to West and heads toward Juhu as well. The heavy rains have affected the trains on CR too with services running 15 minutes late.
"Fast train to Churchgate from Virar is struck between Jogeshwari & Andheri since last 15 mins," said a Twitter user.
