Republic Day 2021: Galwan martyr Col Santosh Babu awarded Mahavir Chakra posthumously

Colonel B Santosh Babu, who has been awarded Mahavir Chakra posthumously by the government on Monday (January 25), had laid down his life in the fight with Chinese troops in Ladakh. Belonging to the Suryapet district of Telangana, he is survived by his wife Santoshi, nine-year-old daughter Abhigna and four-year-old son Anirudh.

Santosh, the Commanding Officer of 16 Bihar Regiment, had been serving on the Indo-China border for the past one-and-half year and his family was looking forward to his transfer to Hyderabad.

Johnson was due to be in New Delhi as the chief guest at the annual parade to mark India's 72nd Republic Day but had to call off the visit to focus on the domestic crisis unleashed by the emergence of a new, deadlier variant of coronavirus in the UK at the end of last year.
