The US-based private equity (PE) giant Bain Capital announced on Thursday that it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire joint control of India’s second-largest gold financier, Manappuram Finance, by purchasing an 18 per cent stake for ₹4,385 crore.

The acquisition will be through a preferential allotment of equity and warrants at ₹236 per share, a 30 per cent premium over the six-month average trading price.

Fixed wireless access (FWA) or home broadband is driving the massive surge in 5G data traffic in India, which tripled in 2024, as 4G growth declines, Finnish telecom gear maker Nokia said on Thursday. In its annual India Mobile Broadband Index report, Nokia said data consumption of 5G FWA users is 12 times that of mobile data users.

With 5G FWA making up 25 per cent of overall 5G data, the findings further solidify FWA as the only major segment where 5G can be quickly monetised by telcos.

Karnataka power consumers will have to pay an additional 36 paise per unit as a surcharge from April 1, after the Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission (KERC) allowed energy supply companies (ESCOMs) to recover the government's share of pension and gratuity (P&G) contributions from consumers.

The P&G contributions will be revised for FY 2026-27 and FY 2027-28, with consumers paying 35 paise and 34 paise per unit, respectively.

US pharma major Eli Lilly on Thursday launched the much-awaited diabetes and obesity management drug Mounjaro (tirzepatide) in India, priced at ₹3,500 for a 2.5 mg vial and ₹4,375 for a 5 mg vial.

The drug, usually taken once a week, would then cost between ₹14,000 and ₹17,500 per month, depending on the dosage recommended by the doctor. The average monthly price of Mounjaro in the US is around $1,000–$1,200 (approximately ₹86,000–1 lakh).
