India will pursue economic reforms agenda: Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said even as India is now the fastest growing economy and ranks at the top in terms of favoured investment destination, reforms will continue to be pursued in the right earnest.

“My agenda for reform to transform is yet to be finished,” the prime minister told the “Advancing Asia” summit here co-hosted here by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the government of India. “Entrepreneurship is also booming, following a series of steps we have taken.”

Capital market regulator Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) has provided in-principle not to BSE Ltd for an initial public offering (IPO).

BSE, the country's second-largest exchange in terms of volume, has written to market regulator Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) seeking an approval for the IPO and to list its shares on a recognized stock exchange.

Rating agency Moody’s said thin loss-absorbing buffers are a key weakness in State Bank of India’s credit profile, with a provision cover for bad loans of 65 per cent, much lower than similarly rated global peers and down from 69 per cent at end-March 2015.

SBI’s reported gross non-performing loans (NPLs) rose to 5.1 per cent of the total at end-December 2015 from 4.25 per cent in March, following the Reserve Bank of India’s asset quality review. And, is expected to be around six per cent for the year ending March 2016.

The S&P BSE Sensex closed 0.38%, or 94.65 points, higher at 24,717.99, while the Nifty closed 0.32%, or 24.05 points, higher at 7,510.20, after spending the day swinging between gains and losses as investors also booked profits in recent outperformers.
