Ashok Leyland bags orders for 2,580 buses from STUs

Ashok Leyland on Wednesday confirmed that it has bagged orders from IRT (Institute of Road Transport) Chennai, UPSRTC (Uttar Pradesh State Roadways Transport Corporation) and CTU (Chandigarh Transport Undertaking) for manufacturing a total of 2,580 buses. These orders are among the largest from state transport undertakings (STU’s) for a single OEM. All these buses are likely to be dlivered before March 2019.

A section of workers in Hyundai Motor’s Chennai plant held a one-day token hunger strike on Wednesday, as the wage settlement talks with the management were inconclusive.

Air India's Chairman and Managing Director Pradeep Singh Kharola said Wednesday the airline has started carrying food from India for use during the journey back to the country, in an attempt to rationalise catering costs on international flights.

The loss-making airline has already started using food items stocked from India during its onward journey to Stockholm, Copenhagen, Birmingham and Madrid, and use them when returning. It has said food items purchased from these foreign cities are much more expensive when compared to Indian cities.

Shares of YES Bank fell as much as 5.6 per cent to Rs 181.55 on the BSE in intra-day trade on Wednesday as the investors awaited the outcome of the bank's board meeting in regards to the appointment of the new managing director (MD) and chief executive officer (CEO).

At 2:22 pm, the stock of the private sector lender was trading at Rs 187.50 down Rs 4.80 or 2.5 per cent. Over 5.4 crores of shares were traded on the BSE and National Stock Exchange (NSE) so far.

German auto major Mercedes-Benz Wednesday reported 1.4 per cent increase in its sales in India with a record 15,538 units in 2018, retaining its leadership position in the luxury segment for the fourth year in a row. The company had sold 15,330 units in 2017, Mercedes-Benz India said in a statement.

Sales in 2018 were driven by an all-round performance across segments from the new-generation cars, sedans, SUVs and the AMG portfolio, it added.
