Mumbai: Saudi Aramco, Rosneft, Kuwait Petroleum, ExxonMobil, Shell, Total SA and Abu Dhabi National Oil Co. are among companies that have had conversations with the government on asset sales and are likely to bid for the government’s stake in Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd, two people aware of the matter said.

The government is planning to invite preliminary bids for 100% stake sale in Air India next month and already some entities have expressed interest in the national carrier, sources said.

Two bank unions have threatened a 24-hour strike against the recently announced bank mergers and banking activities are likely to get hit on Tuesday, 22 October. The banks will be protesting against falling deposit rates and outsourcing of jobs, news agency IANS reported. All India Bank Employees’ Association (AIBEA) and Bank Employees Federation of India (BEFI) have notified that they will be on a strike from 6 am on October 22 to 6 am on October 23.

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Sunday said negotiations between India and the United States on a trade deal are going on in "full speed" and expressed hope that it will conclude soon.

The negotiations came up during a discussion between Sitharaman and US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin at the IMF headquarters. Mnuchin is scheduled to visit India next month.
