Amazon threatened to fire climate activists, says employee group

A group of Amazon.com employees who pushed the company to combat climate change say Amazon has threatened to fire some of them if they continue to speak out about their employer’s internal affairs.

Two were threatened with termination, a spokesperson for Amazon Employees for Climate Justice said, and a total of four were told in meetings that they were in violation of the company’s policies on workers speaking to the press and on social media.

Realty company Peninsula Land defaults on repayment of loan from SBI

Peninsula Land Ltd, a real estate company promoted by Ashok Piramal Group, has defaulted on repayment of a loan from the State Bank of India (SBI).

The default of Rs 2.35 crore happened on November 30, 2019 on term loan of Rs 177.7 crore. The default is on payment of interest and principal component of the loan. The rate of interest is 9.95 per cent, according to company's filing with exchanges.

Niche bike maker Royal Enfield on Thursday reported 13 per cent decline in total sales at 50,416 units in December.

The company had registered total sales of 58,278 units in the same month a year ago, Royal Enfield said in a statement.

Domestic sales in December were at 48,489 units as against 56,026 units in the year-ago month, down 13 per cent, it added.

Shares of Apollo Hospitals Enterprise jumped 5.2 per cent to Rs 1,501.5 per share on the BSE on Thursday after the company said Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAl) has approved HDFC's bid to acquire 51.2 per cent stake in Apollo Munich Health Insurance Company (AMHI). Competition Commission of India (CCI), and Reserve Bank of India (RBI) have already approved the deal.

Bajaj Auto on Thursday reported a 3 per cent decline in total sales at 3,36,055 units in December 2019.

The firm had sold a total of 3,46,199 units in December 2018, Bajaj Auto said in a statement.

Total domestic sales were down 15 per cent at 1,53,163 units as compared to 1,80,351 units in the year-ago month, it added.

State-owned Oil and Natural Gas Corp (ONGC) has begun an exercise to shed excess cost at the Mumbai offshore oil and gas fields of Panna-Mukta, whose control it regained after two and half decades and has already saved Rs 1 crore in the shipping cost.

ONGC has changed the contract for bringing oil produced from the fields lying in the Arabian Sea to land, resulting in saving of about $5,000 per day, sources with direct knowledge of the development said.
