New Delhi: Telecom operator Idea Cellular has approached the government for raising foreign direct investment (FDI) level in the company to 100%.

“Application made to DIPP (Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion) for 100% FDI in Idea,” the company said in an investor presentation.

Global research firm CLSA has maintained a buy on the shares of Idea Cellular, despite the telecom major posting its biggest ever quarterly loss in Q3. India’s third-largest telecom company posted a net loss of Rs 1,284.5 crore for the quarter ended 31 December 2017, saying that a ‘sharp’ cut in the call connect charges and tariff war amid the telecom companies hit the earnings. Notably, the shares of Idea Cellular slid to a one-month low after the Aditya Birla group telecom company’s net loss for the October-December period more than tripled.

It’s been only 16 months since Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd launched commercial operations, but it may have already overtaken Idea Cellular Ltd on revenue. The new entrant reported revenue of Rs6,879 crore for the December quarter. In comparison, Idea Cellular is expected to report revenue of around Rs6,700 crore, based on consensus Street estimates.

NEW DELHI: Telecom service provider Idea Cellular on Thursday announced "cashback offer" worth Rs 3,300 on online recharges of Rs 398 and above till February 10, 2018.

"On all 'Unlimited' plan recharges of Rs. 398 and above, done through any online channel, Idea customers will get eight discount vouchers of Rs. 50 each," the company said in a statement here.

Idea Cellular has announced its new ‘Magic Cashback Offer’ that will get users a cashback of up to Rs 3,300 on the purchase of Rs 398 pack or higher. Idea’s Magic Cashback offer will take on Jio offer, which was refreshed earlier this week, to offer ‘More than 100 percent cashback’ on the same recharge value of Rs 398 or higher. Although, Idea’s new offer has the same benefits as the ones given by Reliance Jio earlier.

New Delhi: The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India’s (Trai) decision to reduce the international call termination charge from 53 paise a minute to 30 paise a minute will crimp the earnings of Bharti Airtel Ltd, Idea Cellular Ltd and Vodafone India Ltd, analysts said.

The move will also impact newcomer Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd, which was advocating a cut.

New Delhi: The National Company Law Tribunal has approved the proposed merger between Vodafone India Ltd and Idea Cellular Ltd to create India’s largest mobile wireless company, the latter said in a filing to the stock exchanges on Friday.

The two companies now require only the Department of Telecommunications’s approval to proceed with the merger, having already received the green signal from both the antitrust watchdog Competition Commission of India and the Securities and Exchange Board of India, in July.

India’s second largest telecom operator Vodafone has announced a partnership with mobile handset manufacturer Samsung to offer cashback offers on a select range of 4G devices.

Vodafone subscribers can avail cashback of Rs 1,500 on the purchase of Galaxy J2 Pro, Galaxy J7 Nxt or Galaxy J7 Max devices. The cash back will be credited to their Vodafone M-Pesa wallets.
