BSE Sensex regains over 60 pts after a choppy session

BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty edged higher in a choppy session on Friday, while still on course for a third consecutive weekly decline, as gains in Reliance Industries after its annual shareholder meeting, overpowered falls in IT exporters for the day.

At 03.20 pm, Sensex was up 64.39 points at 26435.37, whereas Nifty gained 21.30 points at 7986.65 during the same time.

Mumbai, June 5: Infosys today appointed R. Seshasayee as its non-executive chairman to replace K.V. Kamath, who has stepped down to take over as president of the new Brics bank.

Seshasayee, whose appointment is with immediate effect, has been an independent director on the company's board since January 2011 and is the chairperson of the audit committee.

IT services major Infosys on Thursday said it had completed the acquisition of Kallidus Inc. (d.b.a Skava) and its affiliate, the company said in a press release.

Earlier, on April 24, Infosys has announced that it had signed a definitive agreement to acquire the U.S.-based Kallidus Inc. and its affiliate in an all-cash deal for a total consideration of $120 million, including retention bonus and a deferred component.

IT major Infosys plans to introduce stock options as part of its sales incentivisation strategy as it focuses on generating more revenue from existing clients.

At the BofA Merrill Lynch Global Tech Conference in the US on Wednesday, Infosys CEO Vishal Sikka said, “We are focusing on sales efficiency and mining accounts,” while admitting that the company had significantly underperformed in this respect. Account mining is a key strategy for Indian IT services companies that typically generate over 95% of their revenue through repeat business.

Wipro, India’s third-largest information technology (IT) services company, announced a salary increase for its employees largely in line with those offered by its peers. The Azim Premji-led company, which follows a June appraisal cycle, said the average increase in salary for employees located in offshore locations was in the range of seven per cent while for those in onshore locations it was two per cent.

For high-performers, the quantum of raise was substantially higher, Saurabh Govil, global head (human resources), Wipro, said in a statement.

Infosys Ltd gets 8% of its $8.7 billion revenue from offering solutions to clients in the SMAC or digital space, a relatively small percentage when compared to global outsourcing giant Accenture Plc, which gets a fifth of its $30 billion revenue from client spending in that area.

Now, all Infoscions have been told that they are free to get rid of their formals and dress more comfortably to work through the week. Turtlenecks and denims, and anything that does not look too shabby or too casual, are officially in.

This marks a big change for a company that for years mandated that all employees should come in formals from Monday to Thursday. For a company whose vast majority of employees is in their twenties, formals was a source of much irritation.
