Bengaluru: After struggling to close the gap with Flipkart Ltd, Amazon India plans to cut prices and increase spending over the next few quarters to increase its market share in the company’s most important international market, three people familiar with the matter said.

Amazon is simultaneously competing with its domestic rival Walmart Inc., the world’s largest retailer, to buy a majority stake in Flipkart.

Bangalore: Walmart Inc. looks likely to take the next round in the battle for India’s retail market over rival Amazon.com Inc.

Flipkart Online Services Pvt, the country’s leading e-commerce company, is leaning toward selling a controlling stake to the Bentonville, Arkansas-based company, rather than Amazon, because of the greater certainty in such a deal, according to people familiar with the matter.

Taking on Amazon's Alexa-powered smart speakers, Google on Tuesday unveiled its voice-activated the 'Home' and 'Home Mini' speakers in India that can help people with their commute, play favourite songs and videos, plan daily schedule and lots more.

Amazon India has reportedly laid off its 60 employees over global restructuring. According to a report published in the Economic Times, citing sources, it said that Amazon India may future might handover pink slips to more of its staff.

Sources close to the development told the publication that the second person said there might be more layoffs across teams as the company put 25 per cent more employees on performance improvement plans (PIPs) in the December quarter as compared with a year earlier.

Trump has talked about using antitrust law to “go after” the company because he is worried about mom-and-pop retailers being put out of business by Amazon, Axios reported, citing five sources it said had discussed the issue with him.
