Hyundai announces price hike ranging from Rs 2,889 to Rs 82,906

On account of new levies announced in the Union Budget, Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL) Friday raised its vehicles' prices ranging from Rs 2,889 and Rs 82,906 depending on the model. The hike will be effective from March 1.

The second largest car manufacturer in India sells a range of vehicles from entry level small car Eon with price starting at Rs 3.20 lakh to luxury SUV Santa Fe tagged at Rs Rs 30.79 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).

Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL) has registered a 28.8% increase in domestic sales last month at 41,861 units. Domestic sales grew by around 29%, whereas, exports fell by 17% to 22,274 units. Total sales went up by 8% to 64,135 units during the month.

"With strong performance of Grand i10, Elite i20 and CRETA in December, Hyundai domestic volume grew by 28.8% with 41,861 units," said Senior VP-Sales and Marketing, HMIL, Rakesh Srivastava.

Hyundai Motor India Limited today announced appointment of S Ganesh Mani as Vice-President - Production. He will report to Young Key Koo, managing director, Hyundai Motor India Limited.

Mani last served as Vice President Operations Control at Maruti Suzuki India Limited, where he worked for over 28 years and discharged several senior executive level responsibilities in manufacturing, strategy, operations, vector alignment etc.

South Korea's Hyundai Motor Co plans to raise the prices of its car models in India by up to 30,000 rupees ($448.60) starting in January, its local unit said, citing challenging market conditions.

"We are constrained to consider the price increase on account of factors like increase in cost of components, weak rupee etc," Rakesh Srivastava, senior vice president of sales and marketing at Hyundai Motor India Ltd, said in a statement.

Hyundai Motor India recorded a 6.6% decline in its net profit at Rs 1,035.04 crore for the financial year 2014-15, mainly due to higher outgo on account of royalty payments and depreciation. The second-largest car-maker in India saw its total income increase by 7.87% to Rs 27421.4 crore during the period.

According to the company’s filing with the Registrar of Companies, the total expenses stood 8.9% higher at Rs 25,925.1 crore with depreciation expenses and cost royalty surging 25.94% and 39.42%, respectively.

Maruti Suzuki Baleno has got off to a flying start with over 21,000 bookings within 15 days of its launch, confirms the Indo-Japanese carmaker. Launched on 26th October 2015, the company sold a total of 4,229 units in just 5 days of its launch. Its rival Honda Jazz, the second best-selling premium hatchback as of now, could manage to maintain a lead of mere 267 units in October despite being on sale for the entire month. Honda sold 4,496 units of the Jazz in the festive month.

The Hyundai i20, however, remained the top-selling car in the segment with a total sales of 11,019 in the month. But with over 21,000 bookings already and 20 more days left in the month, there is a high possibility of the Baleno outselling the i20 in November 2015 sales.
