Offloading of positions by participants with today being the last trading session of October series contracts in the derivatives segment pulled the index back from record levels, a broker said.

Mumbai: Benchmark Sensex breached the 33,000-mark for the first time, while the Nifty ended at a fresh life high on Wednesday after the government’s Rs9 trillion package lit up banking and infra stocks. The 30-share Sensex surged 435.16 points, or 1.33%—its biggest single session gain since 25 May when it had surged 448.39 points—to close at a new peak of 33,042.50. The broader 50-share Nifty finished at its fresh lifetime high of 10,295.35, up by 87.65 points, or 0.86%.

MUMBAI: The benchmark BSE Sensex recovered about 224 points and the NSE Nifty regained the 10,200 mark in early trade on Monday on fresh buying by investors amid a firm trend in Asian markets.

The 30-share barometer, which had lost 194.39 points on the first day of Samvat 2074 in special 'Muhurat' session on Thursday, was trading higher by 223.86 points or 0.69 per cent at 32,613.82.

Banking stocks led the fall as participants booked profits to write their first entry with gains on the first session of Samvat 2074, brokers said. The broader NSE Nifty too dipped below the 10,200-mark in the special one-hour Muhurat session.
