Heat Pipe Technology, Inc. was founded by Mr. Khanh Dinh in 1983.With funding fromprivateinvestors and a grant from the Department of Energy, HPT began research on newuses for heat pipes, a passive heat transfer device previously used in various applications ranging from orbiting satellites to the Alaskan Pipeline ground spikes. By applying the principle of heat pipes to air conditioning systems, the dehumidification performance and efficiency was greatly enhanced,with moisture removal increased by 30 to 50%. However, to lower fabrication costs, research and development was required. This task was performed by HPT under a three-year, $500,000 contract with NASA’s Kennedy Space Center. The outcome of that effort is a new generation of heat pipes, costing one third the price of the aerospace heat pipes, while offering the same level of performance.
