Puget Energy is one of Washington State's largest utilities. Its electricity supply and transmission business, Puget Sound Energy, provides electricity to more than 1 million customers and natural gas to about 749,000 customers in western Washington. The utility owns fossil-fueled and hydroelectric plants as well as wind farms with a cumulative total of about 5,050 MW of capacity. In 2009, Puget Holdings LLC, a consortium led by Australian bank unit Macquarie Infrastructure Partners, acquired Puget Energy for $7.4 billion. The deal strengthens Puget Energy's access to cash to pay down debt and for future growth.

Rappahannock Electric Cooperative (REC) keeps the power running smoothly. The consumer-owned cooperative provides electricity to homes, businesses, and industries in parts of 16 counties from the Blue Ridge Mountains to the mouth of the Rappahannock River in eastern Virginia. REC supplies power to 102,000 members over more than 12,000 miles of power line. Once rural in nature, the cooperative's territory has seen large pockets of suburban growth. REC offers surge protection, internet services, and home security plans to entice customers as competition from other suppliers arrives.

Ratchaburi Electricity Generating is a powerful force. The company, known as Ratch, is Thailand's largest independent electric utility. Subsidiary Ratchaburi Electricity Generating Company runs the power plant, which has a total capacity of about 4,500 MW of electricity. Ratchaburi Energy Company, the other major subsidiary, funds smaller power plants and other power generating operations. Ratch also owns stakes in ethanol and natural gas companies and it participates in a joint venture with SouthEast Asia Energy to run a hydro-electricity plant in Laos. Established in 2000, the company is 45% owned by the Thai government via the EGAT Public Company.

Rayburn Country Electric Cooperative (Rayburn Electric) operates in the old stomping grounds of the legendary Texas politician and former speaker of the US House of Representatives. Rayburn Electric is a power generation and transmission organization that supplies wholesale power to five rural distribution cooperatives operating in 16 counties in north central and northeastern Texas. The five distribution cooperatives (Fannin County Electric Coop, FEC Electric Coop, Grayson-Collin Electric Coop, Lamar County Electric Coop, and Trinity Valley Electric Coop) collectively own the company. In 2010 it acquired a 25% stake in a Texas power plant from Calpine for $215 million.

Red El�ctrica de Espa�a (REE) owns and operates most of the country's power transmission grid. REE's system includes more than 34,300 kilometers of high-voltage transmission lines and more than 3,100 substation circuit bays. T-Online acquired REE's 10,000-kilometer fiber-optic network, which runs alongside the utility's power lines and is used to offer broadband telecom services, in 2005. However, REE's sister company Red El�ctrica Internacional, is contrtacted to continue maintenance of this network until 2016.
