Founded in 2001 by partners David Hernandez, Eliezer Hernandez and Alberto Daire, Liberty Power has grown to serve tens of thousands of customers including small and mid–sized businesses, large Fortune 500 accounts, and government entities on a national level.

Lincoln Electric System (LES) takes care of all of the power needs for residents and businesses in Lincoln, Nebraska. The company generates, purchases, transmits, and distributes electricity for approximately 128,130 residential, commercial, and industrial customers in Lincoln and surrounding communities. LES has interests in fossil-fueled power plants and wind energy facilities; the utility also purchases power through contracts with other generation utilities, such as the Nebraska Public Power District and the Western Area Power Administration, and it markets power to wholesale customers.

Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) keeps the movie cameras running and the swimming pools full. The largest municipally owned utility in the US, LADWP provides electricity to more than 1.4 million residential and business customers and water to 640,000 customers. The company has power plant interests that give it more than 7,220 MW of generating capacity; it also buys and sells wholesale power. Most of the city's water supply is transported through two aqueduct systems from the Sierra Nevada Mountains; other water sources include wells and local groundwater basins. Because LADWP is city-owned, its retail monopoly status was unaffected by utility deregulation in California.

Lyntegar Electric Cooperative is based in the agricultural heart of the Texas Panhandle, where the summer heat sizzles and the winter ice storms freeze. The rural power cooperative provides electric utility services to customers in Borden, Dawson, Gaines, Garza, Hockley, Lynn, Martin, Terry, and Yoakum counties. The cooperative also sells electric grills and provides internet and television services. In addition, Lyntegar Electric Cooperative produces Typically Texas Cookbooks, which share collections of recipes used by cooperative member-consumers.

Manila Electric Company (Meralco) is the largest utility in the Philippines, providing power to 4.6 million customers in 29 cities (including metropolitan Manila) and 82 municipalities. As deregulation takes effect, Meralco is reducing its dependence on state-owned National Power Corp. (Napocor) by increasing the amount of power it purchases from independent power producers. Meralco has prepared for greater competition by moving into nonregulated activities, including energy, e-commerce, and real estate. In 2008 Philippine conglomerate San Miguel Corp. acquired the Philippine government's 27% stake in Meralco, and raised that to 48% in 2009. Metro Pacific Investments boosted its stake to 20% soon after that.
