Aldo Group Inc. was born with the 1972 opening of four stores by Moroccan founder Aldo Bensadoun. Aldo Group knows the value of cheap chic; heck, its founder practically tripped over the concept. Aldo Group runs about 1,500 shoe stores, including more than 700 under the Aldo banner and another 335 shops under the Spring, Feetfirst, and Globo names, among others. The company has stores in Canada, the US, the UK, and some 50 other countries worldwide. Aldo Group entered the US market in 1993 and has grown to number 475 stores here. Globetrotting Aldo's international sales now outpace its business in Canada. Plans call for more expansion in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia, and the US.

Alexon Group is an apparel retailer with more than 100 shops throughout the UK and Europe as well as about 900 concessions inside large UK department stores. It also markets clothing online. The company's brands include Alex & Co., Ann Harvey, Dash, Eastex, Kaliko, and Minuet. Undergoing changes designed to improve profits and focus, the company sold its Bay Trading subsidiary, which operated about 260 stores, to Rinku Group after placing the chain in administration in 2009. The rest of the Alexon Group did not go into administration but is suffering from slumping sales.
