First Care Medical Services was founded in 1897 by Dr. C. J. Rosser and his family. First Care Medical Services (FCMS) helps keep the chill of northern Minnesota from getting the better of its residents. FCMS provides general medical and surgical health care services to the Polk County, Minnesota, area, including emergency, cardiovascular, rehabilitation, and cancer care. Other medical services include behavioral health, audiology, diabetes care, home health, hospice, and ambulance and air flight transportation. Fletcher Allen Health Care operates an academic medical center in alliance with the University of Vermont College of Medicine. The integrated health system (formed in the 1995 merger of Fanny Allen Hospital, Medical Center Hospital of Vermont, and University Health Center) serves residents of Vermont and northern New York through some 35 patient care sites and 100 outreach clinics. Its three primary hospital campuses have a combined 560-bed capacity and a medical staff of some 800 health care providers representing medical specializations including emergency/trauma care, pediatrics, and women's health. The health care system receives some 54,000 emergency visits each year.

The Florida Hospital Heartland Medical Center opened in 1997. Florida Hospital Heartland Medical Center provides care to residents of central Florida. The not-for-profit, 160-bed medical center is the flagship facility of the Florida Hospital Heartland division of Adventist Health System. Other facilities in the Heartland system include Florida Hospital Lake Placid (a 50-bed community hospital), Florida Hospital Wauchula (25 beds), various fitness centers, medical clinics, and counseling agencies. Together the facilities provide primary and acute care, as well as specialty medical services including diagnostics, obstetrics, cardiac care, and cancer treatment.
