Newsweek gets its readers up to speed on national and world events. The company publishes Newsweek, a US newsweekly with a worldwide circulation of more than 4 million readers. The magazine has more than 15 news bureaus worldwide and publishes about ten international editions that reach some 190 countries. Newsweek editors and contributors include Jonathan Alter, Anna Quindlen, and George Will. The firm was founded by Thomas Martyn, a former editor at Time magazine who wanted to strike up some competition. He published the first issue, then called News-Week, in 1933. The Washington Post bought the magazine in 1961; it sold Newsweek to stereo equipment magnate Sidney Harman in 2010.
