The Greater Washington Educational Telecommunications

The Greater Washington Educational Telecommunications Association is a leading public broadcaster serving the Washington, DC, area with a television station and a radio station operating under the call letters WETA. It is also a leading producer of content for the Public Broadcasting Service, including PBS NewsHour (created in partnership with MacNeil/Lehrer Productions) and Washington Week. WETA has also co-produced several documentaries by Ken Burns, including The Civil War and Baseball. The not-for-profit organization was formed in 1953 and received a TV broadcast license in 1961.
