Texas has the more adventurous Schlitterbahn (German for "slippery road"). Waterpark Management, doing business as Schlitterbahn Waterparks, operates one of the largest water parks in the US: The Schlitterbahn Waterpark Resort in New Braunfels, Texas. The 65-acre park contains three miles of snaking tubular waterslides, as well as wave pools, raft and tubing rides, spring-fed pools, and other amusements, as well as an adjacent 230-room hotel. Waterpark Management, Inc. operates additional waterparks in South Padre Island, Texas; Galveston Island, Texas; and Kansas City, Kansas. Waterpark Management, Inc. is owned by the family of Gary Henry, who launched the flagship New Braunfels park in 1979.
