The National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame (NFF) is a member organization dedicated to promoting and developing the sport of amateur football. The foundation runs the College Football Hall of Fame in South Bend, Indiana, a museum celebrating elite college football players and coaches. It also tabulates and disseminates the weekly standings for college football's Bowl Championship Series; awards over $1 million in athletic scholarships annually; and, through its Play It Smart program, organizes mentoring for more than 10,000 at-risk youth and high school student athletes. The primary goal of the association would be to "promote and encourage rifle shooting on a scientific basis," according to a magazine editorial written by Church. After being granted a charter by the state of New York on November 17, 1871, the NRA was founded. Civil War Gen. Ambrose Burnside, who was also the former governor of Rhode Island and a U.S. Senator, became the fledgling NRA's first president.

The New York Academy of Medicine schools the world on urban health issues. The not-for-profit institution focuses on epidemiologic, health policy, and public health studies with an emphasis on disadvantaged urban populations. The Academy hosts educational conferences and symposia on issues like HIV/AIDS, asthma, substance abuse, and mental health, as well as offering continuing medical education for professionals. The Academy also supports one of the largest privately-owned medical libraries in the world with 800,000 books, some 400 journal subscriptions, and more than 50,000 rare books and manuscripts. The Academy was founded in 1847 by a group of NYC doctors to reform the medical profession and public health.

The Nobel Foundation manages assets left by the will of Alfred Nobel. The foundation, established in 1900, awards the prestigious Nobel Prize each year for achievements in areas that were of interest to Nobel: physics, chemistry, medicine or physiology, literature, and peace. The field of economics was added in 1968 by the Bank of Sweden. The Nobel Foundation also arranges activities associated with the presentation of the prize and administers Nobel symposia in the prize areas. Born in 1833 in Stockholm, Sweden, Nobel invented dynamite in 1866. Before his death in 1896, he had established companies and laboratories in countries worldwide.
