In October 1981, Pamela J. Wright opened her first office in Nashville, Tennessee, with a simple, but ambitious mission: to ensure that clients receive unsurpassed value from their travel dollars and to provide service that surpasses their expectations. Following that philosophy, Wright Travel has grown to be the largest travel agency in Tennessee and one of the largest in the United States. Headquartered in Nashville, Wright Travel operates 18 full-service branch locations in nine states: Alabama, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, North Carolina, Tennessee, and Utah.

The industry standard for service – especially among most travel agency national chains – has been the trend toward building large, impersonal reservations centers staffed with a mass of travel agents. As high profile as this concept is, clients certainly can receive low-profile treatment; each traveler or travel arranger becomes lost in a sea of others when trying to make a reservation or a change in a reservation. Being able to talk to the same travel agent more than once has become an impossibility.
