Sports Authority of India (SAI)

Rising Sports consciousness and enthusiasm generated in India following the spectacular show of the IXth Asian Games at Delhi prompted the Government of India to focus on sports development to encourage physical fitness among youth and to channelise their energy towards excellence. The need of an apex body to coordinate various sports activities led to the creation of the Sports Authority of India (SAI) in 1984 by the Government of India.
