The Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Development has been set up as an autonomous Institute of the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India. The Institute was registered as a society under the Manipur Societies Registration Act, 1989 (Manipur Act of 1999) on 26th April 2001. The Institute was established in pursuance of the decision of the Government of India to conserve the rich bioresources of the Indo-Burma region and sustainable utilization of the resources.
