The National Centre for Biological Sciences (NCBS), Bangalore is a new centre of the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Mumbai. It is located in north Bangalore, on the campus of the University of Agricultural Sciences at the Gandhi Krishi Vigyan Kendra.

In 1983 Indian Council of Agricultural Research, the apex body for agricultural research and education in the country, established National Research Centre for Mushroom, NRCM at Solan, Himachal Pradesh, with a mandate to carry out research, training and extension on all aspects of mushrooms in the country. The Centre besides conservation and maintenance of the germplasm of edible fungi, has strengthened its activities on improving the strains and the crop husbandry practices of the button mushrooms, accelerated the programmes on diversification of species and has generated valuable information on oyster, shiitake, black ear and giant mushroom.

The research on oil palm under irrigated conditions is practically a new start and the Indian Council of Agricultural Research has established the National Research Centre for Oil Palm at Pedavegi in West Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh on 19th February, 1995.

The National Research Laboratory for Conservation of Cultural Property (NRLC) is a scientific institution of the Department of Culture, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. NRLC was established in 1976 to give a scientific footing to the conservation of cultural property in the country. In its formative stages, the NRLC was developed with monetary and technical assistance from the UNDP and UNESCO, and now it is an Associate Member of the Rome based International Centre for the Study of the Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property.

Established in 1991, with Dutch assistance under a bilateral agreement between Government of India & The Netherlands. NSDRC has gradually developed into one of the Premier Ship Design & Maritime Research Centres in the world. Today, NSDRC has become one of the important, self sustaining, profit centres, in the Ministry of Shipping, Government of India.

NATPAC was established in 1976 as a Division of Kerala State Electronics Development Corporation (KELTRON), a Public Sector Enterprise under the Government of Kerala. The Centre is undertaking research and consultancy works in the fields of traffic engineering and transportation planning, highway engineering, public transport system, inland water transport, tourism planning, rural roads, environmental impact assessment and transport energy.

Its vision is to become a center of excellence for conservation of hydrocarbons & environment protection for sustainable development on our inherent strength.

The Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR) was established in 1945 at the initiative of Dr. Homi Jehangir Bhabha. The Institute is proud to have produced many of the finest scientists of India who have been involved in seminal research in fields ranging from Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Physics and Science Education as well as some aspects of Public Health.

The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), New Delhi, the apex body in India for the formulation, coordination and promotion of biomedical research, is one of the oldest medical research bodies in the world. It is assisted in scientific and technical matters by a Scientific Advisory Board comprising eminent experts in different biomedical disciplines.

The Physical Research Laboratory was founded by Dr Vikram A Sarabhai in November 1947 following an agreement between the Ahmedabad Education Society and Karmakshetra Educational Foundation. The Laboratory had its humble beginnings in the M. G. Science Institute and its research activiites were focussed primarily on Cosmic Rays and Upper Atmospheric Studies.
