Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday reached out to the opposition, saying he needs their support for "improvement" in his government, even as he attacked the Congress over disruptions in Parliament while skipping the raging issues like JNU and Dalit student's suicide.
Taking a dig at Congress party, Modi invoked former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi and said, "House is a place where debates are to take place, but if boundaries are maintained during a debate then it is fruitful. This is not something I am saying, this has been said by former PM Rajiv Gandhi."
Stating that Parliament is not allowed to function due to inferiority complex of opposition leaders, Modi added, "Parliament is a forum for debate and we must maintain decorum in Parliament."
"Opposition is concerned how the government is doing better than it," he added as he cited comparison in some sectors like Railways and MNREGA.
The Prime Minister also appealed to entire opposition in passage of important bills in both Houses of Parliament.
In a point by point rebuttal to the allegations levelled by Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi against the policies formulated by the BJP led NDA regime, Modi criticised the former for mocking the Make in India initiative.
"We are mocking things like Make in India? This is for the nation. If there are shortcomings it may be shared and discussed," he said while asserting that the former UPA regime failed to meet its set targets.
During his address, Modi also suggested that only women members should speak in Parliament on March 8, the International Day for Women. He also said that we can set time where only first time MPs can speak. This will bring a fresh perspective to the proceedings.
Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday singularly targeted Prime Minister Narendra as he led the opposition attack on government in Lok Sabha, saying a "fair and lovely" scheme had been brought to launder blackmoney and slammed it over JNU and Dalit student Rohith Vemula issue besides the Pakistan policy.
