Infosys launches three new service offerings under 'Aikido' branding

Infosys, India’s second largest information technology (IT) services company, on Thursday launched three new services which, it said, would work as a catalyst in positioning it as a next-generation services company. The three initiatives together would be known as ‘Aikido’, name of a popular Japanese martial art.

‘Ki’, the first of the three services, stands for knowledge-based IT, which captures the knowledge within an organisation, its people, structure and systems over a long period of time.

The company intends to offer this as a part of consulting services, which is currently headed by company veteran Sanjay Purohit.

‘Do’ refers to services offering on design thinking and design-led initiatives that would help in understanding and defining a client's problems. The third service, ‘Ai’ refers to platforms and platforms-as-a-service to build intelligent solutions.

“Ai, Ki and Do combine into Aikido and just as Aikido aims to understand the forces, and redirect these into a fundamental strength, our Ai, Ki and Do services will help combine the knowledge and energy in an enterprise towards its strategic path and priorities,” said Vishal Sikka, chief executive and managing director.

“These three services will help us greatly accelerate the execution of our strategy of ‘Renew’ and ‘New’, which is built on the foundation of our culture of learning and innovation. Together, these can work as a great catalyst for our company as well as clients,” he added.

In October last year, Sikka who was just around three months into the company, had spelt out the new strategy, which was centered around renewal of the core, which included all existing service offering and service lines, and innovation into new areas.

So far, the company was primarily focused on renewing the existing businesses using the power of newer technologies like artificial intelligence, automation, machine learning and big data.

The launch of the new next generation services is seen as a continuation of that strategy. With an aim of building capabilities in newer technologies, Infosys is also pursuing a very active inorganic strategy.

In the ongoing calendar, the company has already made two acquisitions, including Panaya, an automation technology solutions provider, and Kallidus Inc, a San Francisco-based digital as well as mobile commerce solutions provider which operates under the brand name, Skava.
