An improvised explosive device (IED) recovered from a Santro car in the Ayengund area of Rajpora in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district was defused by the personnel of the bomb disposal squad in the early morning of Thursday.
A police officer said that a joint team of forces including 44 Rashtriya Rifles(RR), Pulwama police, and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) recovered the improvised explosive device (IED) after searching the vehicle.
Pulwama Police got credible information last night that a terrorist was moving with an explosive-laden car ready to explode at a certain location. They took out various parties of police, army and covered all possible routes keeping themselves away from the road.
The suspected vehicle came and a few rounds were fired at it. A little ahead the vehicle was abandoned and the driver escaped in the darkness. After a closer look, the vehicle was seen to be carrying heavy explosives inside a drum on the rear seat.
The car was kept under watch for the night, and the people in nearby houses were evacuated.
"We had received inputs about movement of the vehicle carrying IED 4-5 days ago," a police officer said.
He said that bomb disposal squad teams were called to the spot who destroyed it.
“A major incident of a vehicle-borne IED blast is averted by the timely input and action by Pulwama Police, CRPF and Army,” IGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar said.
There was no loss of life or property in the incident.
