Coronavirus scare reaches military as Army jawan tests positive

The coronavirus infection has reached the Indian Army as a soldier from Leh is reported to have tested positive for the virus. He was on leave from February 25 to March 1 and during that time, his father had returned from a pilgrimage in Iran.

The jawan is said to belong to the Ladakh Scouts. As per news reports, he is being treated while his family including his sister and wife have been put in quarantine. His father has also tested positive.

Meanwhile, the entry of foreign tourists to the Union Territory (UT) of Jammu and Kashmir has been banned as a precautionary measure in view of the coronavirus outbreak around the world.

As per the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the total number of confirmed cases in India till March 17, 5:15 PM, is 137. This includes cured cases as well as deaths.

The highest number of positive cases have been reported from Maharashtra at 40, including 3 foreigners, while Kerala is second with 29 cases, including two foreign nationals and three patients who already recovered.
