Maharashtra govt to decide on suspension of Mumbai local amid coronavirus fear

Maharashtra Chief Minister will on Tuesday take a decision on suspending the lifeline of Mumbai, the local train services for some days as the number of confirmed cases of coronavirus in the state rose to 39 on Monday. The decision is said to be a measure to prevent the spread of the virus as lakhs of people use the local trains to commute.
The matter is being discussed at the state cabinet meeting on as the Maha Vikas Aghadi government has maintained that the virus must not be allowed to spread from 'Phase II to Phase III' at any cost.
The decision could also include the other means of public transport such as Mumbai Metro Rail, Monorail and others to create 'social distance'.
"There are options like fumigating all train coaches, limiting the number of commuters to the seats available in each bogey to avoid crowding being considered other than completely stopping the local train services," Health Minister Rajesh Tope said.
Meanwhile, a 63-year-old man died of coronavirus in Mumbai at city's Kasturba Hospital. According to officials, the man had returned from Dubai and was being treated at the hospital.
