Ashok Leyland March sales up 23% at 22,453 units

Hinduja Group flagship company Ashok Leyland today reported a 20 per cent increase in total sales at 22,453 units for March 2018, as against 18,701 units in the same month last year.

Sales for its medium and heavy commercial vehicles increased by 12 per cent at 17,057 units in March as against 15,277 units in the year-ago period, the company said in a filing to the BSE.

Light commercial vehicles sales jumped by 58 per cent and stood at 5,396 units as against 3,424 units in March last year.

For the fiscal 2017-18, total sales were at 1,74,873 units as against 1,45,085 units sold in the previous year, up 21 per cent.

Meanwhile, Ashok Leyland has won an order worth Rs 321 crore for supply of 2,100 buses from The Institute of Road Transport (IRT) in Tamil Nadu.

In a BSE filing, Ashok Leyland said, "it bagged an order from IRT, Tamil Nadu, for supply of 2,000 passenger chassis and 100 of fully built small buses to various state transport undertakings (STUs) in Tamil Nadu. The order size is Rs 321 crore".Ashok Leyland said this order is scheduled to be supplied in the first half of next fiscal.

Earlier, Ashok Leyland has recorded a 29 per cent increase in its total sales at 18,181 units in February 2018.

The company had sold 14,067 units during the same month previous year, Ashok Leyland said in a statement.

Sales of medium and heavy commercial vehicles during the month rose 21 per cent to 13,726 units as against 11,329 units in a year-ago month.

Light commercial vehicles sales surged 63 per cent to 4,455 units in February compared to 2,738 unit in the corresponding month last year.
