SBI signs $152-mn export pact with Japanese bank

State Bank of India (SBI) on Monday signed a loan agreement with the Japan Bank of International Cooperation (JBIC) to set up an export credit line in two currencies worth $152 million. The total amount in the export credit line consists of 13.5 billion yen and $21 million, a release said, adding the loan is co-financed with the Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi (BTMU).
This credit line will be utilised by Meja Urja Nigam to finance the procurement of steam turbine generators from Japan’s Toshiba Corp and its Indian subsidiary to construct a super-critical pressure coal-fired power plant (660 Mwx2 units) in Meja, Uttar Pradesh. The plant is an equal joint venture between NTPC, a Central PSU, and UP Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam. The agreement was signed by SBI Chairman Arundhati Bhattacharya and JBIC Governor Hiroshi Watanabe in Tokyo. "India has a strong appetite for infrastructural development and I see a greater role for JBIC in supporting Indian commercial banks and infrastructure companies,” Bhattacharya said.

IT major Infosys, on Thursday, reported a consolidated net profit increase of 30 per cent to Rs 7,969 crore for the quarter of January-March in the financial year 2024 (Q4FY24), compared to Rs 6,128 crore reported during the same period last year.
The consolidated revenue went up 1.3 per cent to Rs 37,923 crore, compared to Rs 37,441 crore reported during Q4FY23.

Two individuals have been arrested by the Mumbai Crime Branch late on Monday night for allegedly firing shots outside the residence of Bollywood actor Salman Khan in Bandra West on April 14, several media outlets reported.
"Both individuals, who fled Mumbai following the shooting, were apprehended in Bhuj, Gujarat," stated officials, as per news agency ANI. The Mumbai police confirmed that the detained individuals, identified as Vicky Gupta and Sagar Pal from Champaran, Bihar, will be transported to Mumbai for further interrogation.

Tata Consultancy Services has topped the LinkedIn's latest list of top companies to work for in India, followed by Accenture and Cognizant in the second and third place respectively.
Professional networking platform LinkedIn on Tuesday released the 2024 Top Companies list for India wherein IT companies bagged the top three ranks, while financial services firms dominated the list with 9 out of 25 companies from this sector.

Shares of Vodafone Idea dropped as much as 3.95 per cent to hit an intraday low of Rs 12.64 per share. The drop comes in reaction to the follow-on public offering (FPO) anchor book, which will open today.
Vodafone Idea shares have plunged 25.19 per cent year-to-date (YTD), but have surged 7 per cent in the past 6 months.
