Maruti launches new Swift with auto gear shift technology

The country's largest car firm Maruti Suzuki on Thursday launched the third generation version of its popular model Swift with price starting at Rs 4.99 lakh. The new model comes with an introduction of auto gear shift technology.
Swift, available in both petrol and diesel, has been priced between Rs 4.99 lakh to Rs 7.29 lakh for petrol manual version, and Rs 5.99 lakh and Rs 8.29 lakh for diesel manual variant.
The automatic petrol is priced Rs 6.34 lakh onwards, while the diesel automatic starts at Rs 7.34 lakh onwards. While the petrol variant will have a 1.2-litre engine, the diesel option is powered by a 1.3-litre engine, the company said.
Since the launch of Swift in 2005, the model saw the sale of 1.8 million units till date. The all-new Swift is built on Suzuki's new and innovative 5th generation HEARTECT platform for more strength, peppier performance and advanced safety. More spacious, it is loaded with new features that are poised to thrill customers, the company said.
Kenichi Ayukawa managing director and CEO, Maruti Suzuki, said Swift has featured among the top five best-selling cars in India for more than a decade.
The company claims that the all-new Swift offers fuel efficiency of 22.0 km/l for petrol and 28.4 km/l for diesel engine variant. Last month, the company had opened bookings for the new Swift.
The model development cost for Swift is over Rs 700 crore. "The the hatchback comes with around 98% localisation," the company said.
"Indian customers are changing rapidly. In line with this, our goal is to offer products, technology and experience suited to their changing needs," he said.
The new Maruti Suzuki Swift is wider and has a longer wheel-base. It comes with more cabin space, headroom and luggage space than the outgoing Swift.
According to the company, the next generation Swift is 40 mm wider with 20 mm longer wheel-base. The new model is also equipped with advanced safety features such as Dual airbags and ABS with EBD.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday claimed that former premier Rajiv Gandhi abolished the inheritance tax in 1985 after the death of his mother Indira Gandhi to save her wealth from going to the government, continuing his attack on the Congress on the wealth redistribution issue.

Shares of Housing & Urban Development Corporation (HUDCO) hit a record high of Rs 234.30, zooming 15 per cent on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) in Friday's intra-day trade amid heavy volumes on expectations of good growth going forward. Shares of GMR Airports Infrastructure shot up 8.2 per cent at Rs 92.34 a piece on Friday’s intraday trade. A combined 3.07 million shares of the company changed hands on the BSE. In comparison the S&B BSE Sensex fell by 0.31 per cent 74,109 levels.
The stock of GMR Airports reached a 52-week high of Rs 94.30 on February 20, 2024, while it hit a 52-week low at Rs 40 on May 29, 2023.
